Please join me in welcoming Melissa
Honkola to the UMD community. Melissa has accepted the Director of Human
Resources and Equal Opportunity position, and her first day on campus
will be August 31.
Melissa provides a wealth of human resources and collective
bargaining experience and is familiar with UMD and the Duluth area. She
graduated from UMD with a degree in Business Administration and has
worked in the Human Resources Department of St. Louis County for the
last 15 years most recently as the Assistant Director.
As Director of Human
Resources and Equal Opportunity, Melissa will oversee employment,
compensation, training and development, labor relations, grievance
processing, employee relations, workers' compensation, payroll,
wellness, and ensuring compliance with all laws, statutes, and
regulations including Equal Opportunity, Americans with Disabilities
Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Minnesota Government Data Practices
Act.
